ClotCare Honored with Humanitarian Award from CHEST Foundation

Dr. Henry Bussey

Marie B. Walker
August, 2008

ClotCare is delighted to announce that it has been selected to receive one of four Humanitarian Project Development Grants provided by the CHEST Foundation. The Humanitarian Award was granted in recognition of the beneficial volunteer work Henry I. Bussey, Pharm.D., FCCP, FAHA has done with ClotCare over the past eight years. According to the award’s critera, "[s]elected projects must show a clear impact on their community and have the potential for long-term sustainability and replicability."

The award, which Bussey describes as a "great honor," is accompanied by a $25,000 grant provided to ClotCare over two years. "This funding," explained Bussey, "could not have come at a better time." According to Bussey, "ClotCare has continued to grow by about 40% per year, but it has become increasingly difficult to rely on industry-sponsored educational grants." ClotCare, which recently announced that it has become a charitable 501(c)(3) organization, relies on tax-deductible contributions from individuals, foundations, and businesses to keep this valuable resource running.

Those interested in supporting ClotCare with a tax-deductible contribution may do so online at www.clotcare.com or by mail to:

About ClotCare

ClotCare Online Resource was started in 2000 with the mission of helping others improve lives by providing both patients and healthcare providers with the most up-to-date information and expert insight on optimal use of antithrombotic and anticoagulant therapy. In achieving this end, ClotCare seeks to be the premier source to which patients and clinicians turn to get information on these therapies used to prevent and/or treat unwanted blood clots that cause heart attacks, strokes, and other potentially catastrophic events.

ClotCare has an editorial board of 19 of the leading experts in the field of anticoagulation and antithrombotic therapy who contribute to the ever-growing ClotCare information database and who are available to respond to questions from clinicians, patients, and caregivers. ClotCare’s activities and services include:

  • timely summaries and reviews of practice-changing studies
  • patient education materials on key subjects relating to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of blood clots and related conditions
  • periodic updates to listserv members regarding new information in this medical field
  • answers to questions submitted via email by patients, healthcare providers, and caregivers
  • a registry of interactions between anticoagulants and herbal products
  • information on continuing education and anticoagulation training programs

ClotCare currently serves more than 200,000 hits per month on the website, responds to thousands of inquiries from patients and healthcare providers each year, sends information alerts monthly to a listserv of more than 3,000 subscribers, and works with other non-profit and community organizations to promote awareness and to educate the public and medical community on issues relating to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of blood clots and related conditions.
