October 2004 According to Heartwire from theheart.org, Senator Charles Grassley of the Senate Finance Committee and Representative Tom Davis have challenged the FDA's handling of the Vioxx issue relating to an increased rate of heart attacks and strokes reported with this drug and related COX2 inhibitors (such as Celebrex). Further, several major news agencies, including CNN and Fox News, have reported that Dr. David J. Graham of the FDA testified before Senator Grassley's committee that his efforts to bring the risk of these drugs to the attention of the FDA was met with "veiled threats and intimidation."
